At the recent Cinemanila International Film Festival, The Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) Award was given to Ho Yuhang, director of "Min" (Malaysia), for being the "Asian director who shows the most promise and who will go far in the international film arena."
Scott Rosenberg, Asia Pacific Bureau Chief for New York-based Film Journal International, chaired the NETPAC jury with Teruoka Sozo, program director of Tokyo International Film Festival, and Filipino documentary filmmaker Rey Ventura as members.
This is the third international recognition for "Min." In November 2003, it received the Special Jury Prize at the Nantes 3 Continentes Film Festival, France; and in April 2004 it received a Special Mention at the Jeonju International Film Festival, South Korea.
"Min" was commissioned by Malaysian station ntv7 as part of the much-hyped "Odissi" series in late 2002. Like most of the commissioned works, it has never been aired.
